Looks like the new JS is powered by WP, but apparently that doesn't make them in any way compatible, which is unfortunate. =\ I will keep an eye on "JS 2.0" and see what happens. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't that socially active on the old one, so where I end up is less of an issue to me than finding a place with features I like and no annoying bits.
